What changedA separate Yahoo Finance comparison adds a different measure to the Nvidia-AMD debate: data centres supplied about 92.5% of Nvidia’s reported sales for the quarter ended 26 July, compared with 58.1% of AMD’s for the quarter ended 27 June. The reporting periods differ, and AMD’s data-centre category includes EPYC server processors as well as Instinct accelerators, so it is not an AI-only measure.
The article’s mechanical stress test applies a 10% fall to each company’s data-centre business, holding everything else constant. On that assumption, total revenue would fall about 9.25% for Nvidia and 5.8% for AMD; a 20% segment decline would mean reductions of 18.5% and 11.6%.
The comparison also complicates the idea that diversification automatically makes AMD safer.
