What changedHong Kong’s proposed AI city brain is a HK$200 million project, officials told a Legislative Council meeting on Tuesday, according to the South China Morning Post. Its first phase will focus on joining infrastructure-monitoring databases, rather than beginning with a broad public-services system.
Undersecretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Lillian Cheong Man-lei said the initial databases include the Lands Department’s geospatial data and its underground utilities system. That system maps water and natural-gas pipes, as well as electricity-grid conditions.
Officials also encouraged government departments to develop their own databases before connecting them to the system. The reported plan puts data integration at the centre of the first phase, with expansion into public services left for later stages.
