What changedData Center Dynamics says SpaceX has secured FCC approval to deploy 15,000 high-capacity satellites for direct-to-device phone coverage. That adds a substantial satellite element to the company’s reported pursuit of access to 80,000 US cell sites.
The report also says SpaceX recently agreed to acquire an 800MHz spectrum portfolio to strengthen its terrestrial and satellite network. These are separate pieces of a broader connectivity plan, not evidence that a nationwide service is already operating.
Data Center Dynamics says SpaceX plans to launch next-generation satellites in 2027 to support Starlink Mobile. The combination of spectrum, ground sites and satellite capacity sketches out the intended architecture, though the report gives no deployment schedule for the cell-site agreements.
