What changedOpenAI’s expanded ChatGPT Signals release adds quarterly data from Q1 2025 to Q3 2026, letting researchers track work-related activity across 165 categories and nearly 100 countries. In 74 countries with data for every quarter, the ten most common activities made up an average 51.1% of classified work messages in Q3 2026, down from 56% in Q1 2025.
OpenAI says this points to work-related use becoming less concentrated in the most common activities, with countries specialising in different types of work over time.
The company links the categories to ONET, a standard framework for comparing work activities.
OpenAI says identifying information is removed before automated classification, individual conversations are not read by researchers, and published aggregates use small-group suppression and statistical noise.
