What changedTSMC’s AI-factory signal has gained another useful dimension. Alongside record August revenue of NT$514.8bn, the company is reportedly constructing or fitting out about 20 fabs at home and overseas, roughly four to five times its historical pace. TSMC’s chipmaking-tool needs have nearly doubled since late 2025, yet deputy chief operating officer Cliff Hou said the company still cannot meet demand. CNBC separately reports that advanced 5nm, 4nm and 3nm capacity was fully booked in the second quarter. The takeaway is blunt: AI demand is now pulling a vast, expensive manufacturing response, and the factories are still playing catch-up.
