Anthropic alignment lead Evan Hubinger said he personally puts the chance of AI causing human extinction within the next decade above 10%. That is his judgement, not a measured forecast. Anthropic told CNBC that it has a catastrophic-risk mitigation framework and is building models with strong safeguards.
The useful shift is institutional: Coxon's resignation has become a wider argument among serving safety researchers about whether frontier labs can keep accelerating without a credible plan for recursive self-improvement.
