What changedThe Iran chapter now extends beyond propaganda and surveillance. Navy Times reports that Anthropic says an Iran-linked actor used Claude to compile targeting handbooks for identifying and tracking US naval forces in the Middle East from open-source material.
According to the account, the collected material included names drawn from public military photographs, ship and aircraft transponder data, satellite-imagery query scripts and websites tracking Navy movements. The actor also allegedly used Claude to examine weaknesses in shipboard systems.
Anthropic says it banned the account, added safeguards and notified relevant government agencies. WittyWires has not independently reviewed the threat report or verified the activity, but the added detail shows the claimed misuse moving from influence work into AI-assisted military reconnaissance.
