What changed

TechCrunch says the Wyoming campus was initially planned with Tallgrass to scale eventually to 10 gigawatts. Crusoe was recently valued at $30.9 billion and raised $3.9 billion in September, putting the unfinished project in the context of a company that has continued to attract substantial funding.

The company’s business extends beyond developing sites: TechCrunch says Crusoe leases data-centre space to customers bringing their own GPUs, rents out its own GPUs and sells compute for running AI models. That makes the handover one project within a broader infrastructure and AI-compute operation.

TechCrunch also says Crusoe is developing an Abilene campus for Oracle and OpenAI, and a separate 900-megawatt site for Microsoft, with its first building expected in mid-2027. Meta is also a customer. The Wyoming sale is a setback, but not the whole Crusoe story.

Sources and evidence
  • Crusoe sells troubled Wyoming data center project to Google: TechCrunch reports that Crusoe was recently valued at $30.9 billion, raised $3.9 billion in September, operates across data-centre leasing and AI compute, and is developing other substantial customer projects alongside the Wyoming site.
