Bloomberg’s video report adds a named Chinese response to the frontier-AI slowdown debate. Foreign-ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun called warnings about AI risks “fearmongering” and said confrontation and vicious competition would disrupt global AI governance. The comments followed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s call to moderate the pace of advanced-model development because safeguards are not keeping up.

China’s statement does not settle whether slower development or stronger oversight is the right answer. It does make the practical challenge clearer: any meaningful AI governance will have to survive geopolitical competition, not just agreement among US technology leaders.
