What changedCohere CEO Aidan Gomez has now put a name and a sharper argument behind the cartel concern. Startup Fortune reports that Gomez called the frontier-AI slowdown proposal “cartel behavior”, arguing that rules shaped by Anthropic, OpenAI and Google could leave smaller labs paying compliance costs set by their largest rivals.
That is Gomez’s reported opinion, not evidence of unlawful coordination, and WittyWires has not independently reviewed his original X post or The Information’s underlying report. Still, it moves the debate beyond a vague suspicion: independent evaluation may be useful, but who writes the standards, who can afford them and who gets to ship are competition questions as well as safety questions.
