What changedA useful human-scale detail has emerged from TSMC’s Dresden build-out. ESMC says about 2,000 people from 106 countries are working around the clock on the fab, while Dresden’s mayor estimates the project and its suppliers could bring 15,000 to 20,000 workers to the area by 2030, including roughly 600 TSMC engineers and their families. The fab is a joint venture with Bosch, Infineon and NXP, and its next major step is installing manufacturing equipment in the second half of 2027, once the cleanroom, automated handling system and utilities are ready. Europe’s chip strategy is acquiring a workforce, not just a roof.
