What changed

The signed Cohere and Aleph Alpha combination now has its fuller company detail on the record. Per the announcement, Cohere has raised about $1.6bn to date, with Nvidia, AMD Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Oracle and Cisco among its backers, while Aleph Alpha brings roughly 200 people across four locations in Germany. Both firms were founded in 2019, and incoming chief operating officer Ilhan Scheer previously founded the data analytics company fable+, later acquired by Accenture.

None of this moves the deal's terms. The combined business operates globally as Cohere with dual Toronto and Berlin headquarters, Heidelberg stays on as a research centre, and closing is expected later this year pending final regulatory approval. The Next Web's readout of the announcement is the freshest consolidation of the day's details.
