Update

What changed

Google has now put its own announcement behind the Home MCP story, and the rollout is concrete: it is rolling out today to Google Home Premium Advanced users in US English. Any agent that supports calling MCP tools can connect, with Google naming Antigravity, Claude, Hermes and OpenClaw, and the reach covers Nest cameras and doorbells, Nest Thermostats and Matter light bulbs.

The announced use cases give the cameras some texture. An agent can summarise what your cameras saw across rooms and surface the clips, read device history such as how many loads of laundry ran this week or how long the lights stayed on, send an audio message over a Home speaker when a background task finishes, and build you a custom dashboard in plain language.

On the trust question this thread has been tracking, Google says Home MCP enforces rate limits and safety protections that prohibit sensitive actions such as unlocking doors, while warning that connecting an agent can still produce unexpected or undesired behaviour. Setup runs through a Google Cloud project: configure it for Home MCP, pass the configuration details to your agent, then approve the sign-in and permissions it requests.
