Update
What changedThe deal has acquired a scoreboard. ITWeb Africa's account adds the national arithmetic the MoU is meant to serve: Egypt is targeting 30,000 deep-tech AI specialists and an ICT sector contribution to national GDP of 7.7% by 2030, and the ministry points to first place in Africa on Oxford Insights' Government AI Readiness Index as evidence it intends to lead the continent rather than merely supply it with talent. A million citizens a year was always the headline; these are the numbers that can actually be audited.
There is more here than awareness slides. The agreement includes technical workshops and training sessions covering Intel's latest AI infrastructure and computing technologies, which the ministry says should build national expertise in AI infrastructure. That is a wager on people who can run the kit rather than merely describe it.
The cast carries titles now. Taha Khalifa signed as Intel's general manager for the Middle East and Africa, and Intel EMEA general manager Gisselle Ruiz Lanza framed the work through the AI for Citizens programme as making AI 'accessible, practical, and beneficial to everyone'. Baraka's contribution was to insist that awareness of responsible use sits inside the training itself rather than beside it. Minister Raafat Hendy, for his part, called AI a key driver of economic competitiveness and better public services.
