What changedOpenAI’s Australian Youth Safety Blueprint is more specific than the earlier six-pillar description suggested. The company says the framework covers AI literacy, age-appropriate safeguards, privacy-protective age assurance, links to real-world crisis support and accessible parental controls.
OpenAI also says it began rolling out ChatGPT for Teens in Australia in August. The default experience is intended for users identified as aged 13 to 17, with safeguards designed around their developmental needs. The company says this builds on existing parental controls, under-18 safety policies and age-assurance systems.
The blueprint also places responsibility on AI companies rather than primarily on young people and their families. OpenAI says it is continuing to strengthen product safeguards and wants input from teens, parents, educators, researchers and policymakers. The archived publisher page is dated 18 September 2026, and later revisions are not established.
That makes this a policy and product-safety proposition, not yet evidence that every promised protection is working in practice. The useful test will be whether age checks protect privacy, whether parental controls are genuinely usable and whether crisis support connects young people to qualified help rather than merely producing a well-intentioned button.
