What changedAmazon has blocked Meta’s Muse from its retail site and has filed an amended complaint accusing Perplexity of misleading a federal appeals court over its Comet shopping agent, according to The Next Web’s account of the dispute.
Amazon says unauthorised agents can scrape data, bypass personalisation and capture credentials without properly identifying themselves. Meta says Muse cannot see users’ passwords or payment details and requires approval before purchases. Those are competing claims, not settled findings.
The legal escalation widens the issue beyond one blocked shopping assistant. Amazon appears to be arguing that automated agents need permission to access its marketplace, while Meta and Perplexity are testing how far an agent may behave like a customer using a browser. The next fight may be over technical access, commercial terms or both. The shopping bot has wandered into the courtroom, which is rarely where a checkout journey hopes to end.
