What changedInvestors are betting that AI agents will create a larger role for CPUs, not just the GPUs that dominate model training. The Globe and Mail reports that Arm, Intel and AMD shares rose as Meta’s Muse agent fuelled expectations of heavier demand for inference, planning and orchestration.
The report says Arm shares rose 17%, Intel 12% and AMD 10% on Monday. It attributes the move to the prospect that agents handling email, bookings and calendars will need more CPU-based computing while they work in the background. That is an investor thesis, not evidence of a disclosed supply agreement between Meta and any of the chipmakers.
The longer-term numbers are company forecasts rather than settled market facts. Arm expects the server-CPU market to reach $120bn by 2030, while AMD forecasts $220bn. The useful addition to the existing story is the mechanism: if agentic software becomes habitual, demand could shift towards the processors handling inference and task coordination, not merely the accelerators used to train models. The market has spotted the plumbing. Now it needs to see the revenue.
