Update

What changed

Ireland has climbed from fourth to third in Microsoft’s global AI-adoption ranking, with 49.9% of its working-age population recorded as AI users. That puts it behind only the UAE and Singapore, and makes Ireland the highest-ranked European economy.

Microsoft’s Ireland update says adoption rose from 48.4% in the previous quarter. The company puts the global figure at 18.8%, meaning Ireland’s reported share is nearly three times the worldwide rate. A small island has rather loudly entered the leaderboard.

The new figures add a useful national comparison to Microsoft’s wider adoption data. They show strong reported usage, but they do not by themselves establish how often people use AI, which tools they use, whether the activity is work or personal use, or whether it is producing measurable economic gains.
