What changedAmazon’s block on Meta’s Muse now has a more specific explanation: the retailer’s Conditions of Use say autonomous agents must identify themselves, avoid imitating people and not circumvent Amazon’s interaction limits. That gives the dispute a sharper fault line than a simple website outage or commercial spat.
Mashable reports that Amazon says Muse did not identify itself clearly enough and that Meta had not obtained authorisation to access the storefront. Amazon also alleges that Muse captures and stores customer credentials. Those are Amazon’s claims, while Meta’s stated position is that the agent cannot see passwords or payment details because credentials are held in secure storage.
The practical wrinkle is that Amazon is developing its own Buy for Me agent, which can purchase products on its platform and from third-party retailers. The emerging contest is therefore not whether Amazon accepts AI shopping in principle, but which agents may act, under whose rules and with what disclosure. The robot may enter the shop, provided it remembers to introduce itself at the door.
Sources and evidence- Amazon blocks Meta's Muse AI agent from shopping – Mashable: Mashable reports that Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse from shopping on its site and says autonomous agents must identify themselves, avoid impersonating people and respect the retailer’s limits. Amazon also alleges Muse mishandles credentials, claims Meta disputes. Amazon is separately testing its own Buy for Me shopping agent.
