What changedThe planned UN Security Council briefing on AI risks now has a wider guest list than first reported. Reuters says DeepSeek and Moonshot AI have been invited to speak alongside OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, Yoshua Bengio and Hugging Face chief executive Clement Delangue.
The closed-door session is due to take place on Wednesday during the UN General Assembly in New York. DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng is not expected to attend in person, and the lineup could still change before the meeting. The 15-member council first discussed AI risks in 2023, making this a return to a diplomatic venue rather than a brand-new institutional power grab.
The briefing remains just that: a briefing. It will not create a treaty, safety standard or enforcement mechanism. Its significance is the unusual mix of American and Chinese AI developers appearing before the same body while Washington and Beijing disagree over whether advanced AI development should slow. The guest list has become part of the argument, which is more diplomatic weight than most name badges manage.
