What changedHugging Face chief executive Clément Delangue and Yoshua Bengio are also expected to join Wednesday’s UN Security Council briefing on artificial intelligence, according to CNBC. Their inclusion adds an open-source platform leader and an independent scientific voice to a session already due to feature OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei.
The meeting is being convened by France during the UN General Assembly in New York. TradingView, citing reporting from CNBC and Reuters, says Chinese AI companies DeepSeek and Moonshot have also been invited to make statements. DeepSeek is expected to participate, although its founder Liang Wenfeng is not expected to attend.
Reuters says the Council will examine AI’s implications for international security, including concerns about increasingly capable systems and the possibility of losing human control. The Security Council first held a formal discussion on artificial intelligence in 2023. This remains a briefing, not a treaty, safety standard or enforcement mechanism, but the room is becoming harder to dismiss as a parade of company chiefs. The useful test is whether the participants offer concrete coordination and oversight proposals, rather than another grand tour of reassuring nouns.
