Update
What changedOpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei have now briefed the United Nations Security Council on artificial intelligence and international security. The meeting turned earlier plans for a high-profile appearance into a direct intervention by two rival AI leaders, with Amodei warning that poorly managed AI could become a risk to people worldwide.
According to The Independent, Amodei told the council that AI could pose a risk to humanity as a whole if it is managed badly.
The Next Web reports that Altman called for shared standards covering capability testing, risk assessment and human oversight, alongside rapid incident reporting and secure communication between governments, infrastructure operators and technical experts.
That is a materially sharper development than a scheduled speaking slot.
