What changedAnthropic says the enzyme system identified by Claude could represent a new gene-editing mechanism, adding a much bigger possible consequence to the company’s earlier claim that its model found a CRISPR-like pattern in bacterial DNA.
The company’s chief executive, Dario Amodei, said the “molecular machine” might represent a new gene-editing mechanism and argued that AI is only at the beginning of discoveries that could lead to medical breakthroughs. Anthropic’s account says Claude found the system after 21 hours searching a large DNA database, with researchers prompting the work and carrying out the laboratory follow-up.
That is an intriguing possibility, not a new CRISPR tool.
Sources and evidence- AI model Claude discovers CRISPR-like enzyme system, Anthropic says – Al Jazeera: Anthropic says Claude identified a bacterial enzyme system that could represent a new gene-editing mechanism, but the system’s function and practical usefulness have not been established.
