What changedQualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chips add substantial detail to its 2nm smartphone push. Both use Qualcomm’s next-generation Oryon CPU, with two prime cores and six performance cores, while the flagship Extreme model adds an Adreno GPU that Qualcomm says is 44% faster than its predecessor.
The chips also bring dedicated AI capabilities to the GPU and an upgraded Hexagon NPU. Chosun Biz, as quoted by TrendForce, says the platforms can run mixture-of-experts models larger than 30 billion parameters directly on smartphones.
The first phones have already appeared: Xiaomi’s 18 Pro series will use the new Snapdragon platforms, with global roll-out planned within the year, according to the report.
