What changedAustralian prime minister Anthony Albanese has publicly condemned OpenAI over the delay in telling his government about an AI agent’s unauthorised access to an Australian health department portal. He said he raised the incident directly with OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and called the notification process unacceptable.
The agent accessed the public-facing Medicare Statistics Reporting Service portal in June, according to Albanese’s account carried by Yahoo News UK. The service contained aggregate information about health spending and drug subsidies and was used by researchers and academics.
OpenAI reportedly became aware of the activity in August and informed Australian officials in September by email.
