Update

What changed

AMD says Perplexity’s Portable Computer is now available on supported Windows PCs powered by Ryzen AI Max Series processors, including the Ryzen AI Halo developer platform. The new detail is practical rather than merely architectural: users can run local AI tasks and recurring workflows on their own hardware without using Perplexity Computer credits for inference.

The arrangement is not presented as an entirely offline replacement for cloud AI. AMD says Portable Computer brings together Perplexity’s models, agent tools and controls, with the option to run work locally or use cloud services when appropriate.

AMD’s announcement does not provide a full compatibility list, performance figures or an independent test of the local-versus-cloud split.
