What changedTechCrunch adds that Anthropic’s seven-year Akamai agreement is initially valued at $11.6bn but could rise to about $20bn if further spending milestones are met. Akamai has also issued Anthropic a warrant for non-voting preferred stock, potentially adding up to $9bn in value to the arrangement.
The report says the deal is focused on supporting Anthropic’s growing AI CPU workload through Akamai’s distributed infrastructure. Akamai expects to spend about $5.5bn on hardware, chips and networking equipment tied to the contract, turning the headline agreement into a substantial investment by the supplier as well as a long-term capacity commitment by the AI company.
That makes the deal a sharper measure of the economics beneath frontier AI.
