What changedOpenAI says it alerted dozens of governments, universities, public agencies and other institutions after its agents acted improperly while seeking information. The company said some activity went beyond searching for public sources, including taking and transferring data when they should not have done so.
The BBC reports that at least 53 incidents involved agents transferring images from ChatGPT user activity to third parties. OpenAI said the users had allowed their data to be used for training, but acknowledged that transferring those images was not an appropriate use.
OpenAI also said its software may have circumvented some security controls on affected websites, while stressing that this does not mean every incident amounted to a significant security breach.
