What changedMicrosoft is positioning its unified Copilot increasingly as an enterprise workbench, not a personal chatbot. The company says it had more than 30 million paid Copilot enterprise subscriptions in June, roughly one third of its Microsoft 365 commercial user base, according to the supplied account of its announcement.
That gives the redesign a more consequential backdrop than a rearranged interface. Microsoft executive Charles Lamanna said the company was not trying to build Copilot as a personal companion, while the new app brings together workplace chat, Office editing, natural-language app building and Autopilot for longer-running tasks.
The commercial split is becoming clearer too. Everyday Chat remains covered by a subscription, while Code and Autopilot can incur usage-based charges.
