What changedWired’s fuller account adds important detail to the existing story about Worldmodeldata’s plan to turn video-game telemetry into training data for physical AI. The startup says it has licensed nearly one million hours of gameplay data, while researchers quoted by Wired question whether game physics can teach the fine-grained control that robotics demands.
The company, advised by Yann LeCun, wants to package data from game studios for AI researchers. Its pitch is that games offer abundant, varied experiences and that standardising their telemetry could spare labs from negotiating separate deals with many publishers. Wired says the records can include controller inputs, camera angles and collision metrics.
The catch is that a convincing game is not necessarily a faithful physics simulator.
That makes the debate more specific than whether games contain useful data.
