Update

What changed

Fast Company reports that Starship’s ascent included an engine shutdown, but mission controllers continued the flight. The vehicle reached orbit and deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites before the mission was cut short after a couple of laps, rather than completing its planned flight of up to six.

The return was also troubled: Fast Company says the Super Heavy booster failed its final landing burns and exploded on impact in the Gulf of Mexico. The upper-stage Ship reportedly erupted in flames after splashdown.

That is a more mixed milestone than orbital success alone suggests. The flight demonstrated that Starship can reach orbit and deploy satellites, while exposing problems during ascent and recovery that matter to its ambitions for reuse and future lunar missions.
