Companies are reporting financial gains from AI, yet only 13% are on track to scale their initiatives, according to a BearingPoint study reported by Crypto Briefing. The gap between promising pilots and AI woven into everyday operations is still the story behind the story.

What happened
The study, published on 1 October, found that fewer than a third of surveyed companies had moved beyond pilot projects, while close to 75% said AI had already delivered positive financial results. Crypto Briefing reports that 24% recorded AI-driven cost savings of at least 10%, compared with just 4% reporting revenue growth of 10% or more.
The reported obstacles were regulatory hurdles, cited by 40% of respondents, and integrating AI with legacy IT systems, cited by 34%. Deep operational integration rose from 7% in 2025 to 11% in 2026. Read Crypto Briefing’s account of the study.
Why it matters
The figures suggest that AI’s near-term business case is showing up more clearly in cost-cutting than in revenue growth. But getting a positive result from a pilot is not the same as making a system work across a company’s processes, data and older technology. That is where the plumbing, paperwork and organisational chart all get a vote.
Our read
These numbers make a useful distinction between AI that has produced a gain somewhere and AI that a business can scale. The reported survey figures are a snapshot, not a verdict on every company, and the account does not provide the study’s sample size or methodology. Still, the reported gap between cost savings and revenue growth is worth watching: a tidy pilot is easy to celebrate; repeatable value is the tougher test.
What to watch
- Whether deep operational integration continues to rise beyond the reported 11%.
- Whether firms move from cost savings towards measurable revenue growth.
- How regulatory requirements and legacy-system integration affect plans to scale.
Discussion spark: Should companies prioritise scaling AI where it already cuts costs, or hold back until they can show it creates meaningful revenue growth?
