Amazon Managed Grafana now lets customers create workspaces on version 13.2, bringing dashboard version control, more flexible layouts and PromQL queries for CloudWatch metrics. For teams managing dashboards as code, the notable change is Git Sync: dashboards can be linked to a Git repository so edits can be tracked, reviewed and reverted.

What happened
AWS says Grafana 13.2 is available in every Region where Amazon Managed Grafana is generally available. The release brings selected features from open-source Grafana versions 13.0 to 13.2, including Git Sync, dynamic dashboards and PromQL support in the Amazon CloudWatch data source plugin. Read AWS’s release notice.
Dynamic dashboards let layouts and panels respond to conditions, data and variables. The CloudWatch plugin can now use PromQL to query metrics that CloudWatch ingests through its OpenTelemetry endpoint, alongside the existing Metric Search and Metrics Insights query types.
Why it matters
Git Sync gives teams a way to manage dashboard changes through familiar version-control workflows, rather than treating every edit as a one-off click in a workspace. That makes review and rollback more practical when dashboards are shared across teams or support important operations.
PromQL support also gives users another way to query OpenTelemetry metrics in CloudWatch. The update is specific to new Grafana 13.2 workspaces, so teams should check their workspace and migration plans before assuming an existing setup has changed.
Our read
This is a useful, concrete upgrade for teams that care about reproducible dashboards and already use Prometheus-style queries. Git Sync is the stand-out: dashboards are operational tooling, and being able to review or undo changes is more than a tidy bit of housekeeping. Check the workspace version and test the new query path against your own metrics before making it part of a production workflow.
What to watch
- Whether AWS adds a route for existing workspaces to adopt version 13.2.
- How Git Sync handles teams’ review and deployment workflows in practice.
- Whether PromQL support covers the CloudWatch metrics and OpenTelemetry setups customers rely on.
Discussion spark: Would you manage operational dashboards through Git review by default, or is the extra workflow overhead only worthwhile for larger teams?
