ClickHouse has appointed former Snowflake and ServiceNow CFO Mike Scarpelli as an independent director and audit committee chair, giving the AI-focused database company a heavyweight finance and governance hand as it scales beyond $350 million in run-rate revenue.

What happened
ClickHouse announced Scarpelli’s appointment on 22 September. VentureBeat carried the company’s announcement, which says Scarpelli previously helped take Snowflake, ServiceNow and Data Domain through initial public offerings.
The move arrives during a substantial expansion. ClickHouse says run-rate revenue has risen from roughly $200 million at the end of 2025 to more than $350 million, while its customer base has passed 4,000 and its workforce is approaching 800 people across 27 countries. The company was valued at $15 billion in an earlier Series D round.
Scarpelli will chair the audit committee. ClickHouse also hired Jimmy Sexton, formerly of Snowflake, as chief financial officer in 2025, making the board appointment part of a broader push to strengthen finance and governance rather than a lone bit of boardroom furniture.
Why it matters
ClickHouse is positioning its open-source, real-time analytical database as infrastructure for AI agents as well as conventional analytics, warehousing, observability and transactional workloads. That makes the finance question more interesting than the usual executive shuffle: AI infrastructure companies are having to prove they can turn technical demand into durable, efficient businesses.
Scarpelli’s record gives ClickHouse experience from companies that crossed the difficult gap between fast growth and public-market scrutiny. It does not prove ClickHouse is preparing for an IPO, nor does it validate the company’s claims about price, performance or future agent workloads. It does show that governance is becoming part of the product story, whether founders find that exciting or merely unavoidable.
Our read
This is a meaningful business signal, not a glamorous announcement. ClickHouse is hiring for the stage where customers, investors and future regulators start asking less romantic questions about margins, controls and accountability.
The company should be judged on whether the new expertise produces clearer financial reporting and disciplined expansion, not on the former executive’s CV alone. A database for AI agents is a useful pitch. A business that can survive their bills is the more interesting achievement.
What to watch
- Revenue quality:
whether growth continues alongside evidence of sustainable margins and customer retention. - Governance:
how ClickHouse develops its audit, risk and reporting processes as it expands. - AI workload evidence:
whether agent and real-time use cases produce measurable customer value. - IPO signals:
any formal changes to reporting, leadership or board composition that point towards public markets.
Discussion spark: Does appointing a veteran IPO finance chief make ClickHouse look ready for public-market scrutiny, or is it simply sensible governance for any fast-growing AI infrastructure company?
