MeetKai says it will build sovereign AI systems in six countries using NVIDIA infrastructure, with a national-scale data centre planned for Ukraine from 2027. The plan puts locally hosted models and computing capacity on the table, although it remains a company announcement rather than evidence that the facilities are built or operating.

NVIDIA Watch analysis

What happened

MeetKai’s announced rollout covers Brazil, Ukraine, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Bangladesh. Its platform and locally trained models are to run on NVIDIA accelerated computing, with the company describing a repeatable design for in-country AI deployments.

The most concrete proposal is in Ukraine. MeetKai and Kyivstar plan to build and operate a data centre whose first capacity is expected in 2027, with a design that could expand from 15MW to 100MW as demand grows. The announcement says it would serve government, critical infrastructure operators, businesses and Kyivstar customers.

Why it matters

The proposal shows how the AI infrastructure race is spreading beyond the largest cloud markets. In-country computing and locally trained language models could give governments and businesses more control over where data is processed and which rules apply. The Ukrainian facility’s proposed scale makes this more than a modest local server room, if the project proceeds as described.

Our read

The useful test is delivery: a sovereign AI stack is only as meaningful as the infrastructure, models and local operating capacity that actually arrive. MeetKai has set out a substantial plan, but a calendar year and a possible power capacity are not the same as a running facility. NVIDIA’s role is concrete in the announced design, while the deployment itself remains prospective.

What to watch

  • Whether the Ukraine project secures a site, financing and a construction timetable.
  • Whether first capacity arrives in 2027 and how the proposed expansion is funded.
  • What deployments and locally trained models emerge in the other five countries.

Discussion spark: For sovereign AI, which matters more: keeping data and infrastructure in-country, or having the local skills and governance to operate them well?
