Meta is giving its business assistant a longer memory and the ability to generate creative, adjust targeting and move campaign budgets in response to chat prompts. TikTok is also adding an AI shopping assistant with in-app checkout, putting more advertising and buying decisions inside conversational tools.

Meta AI Watch analysis

What happened

Meta’s assistant will remember past campaigns, seasonal patterns and advertisers’ goals. The company is testing uploads for strategy documents and brand guidelines, along with scheduled performance reports and alerts. Ads Creative Studio, which suggests creative edits based on campaign performance, is opening to more advertisers; Meta’s Ads MCP server is also expanding to let third-party AI tools build and run campaigns.

Meta is trialling checkout inside conversations on Meta AI and Messenger, including with Shopify. TikTok’s new Shopping Assistant remembers what users want, recommends products and lets them check out without leaving the app. These details were reported by Music Ally during Advertising Week in New York.

Why it matters

The shift is from AI that offers suggestions to tools that can act on advertising budgets, targeting and creative. That could make routine campaign work quicker, but it also gives advertisers a practical question to settle: what should an assistant be allowed to change without a person checking first?

On the shopping side, product discovery and checkout are moving into the same conversation. That may smooth the path to a purchase, while making it more important for shoppers to understand when a recommendation is useful advice, paid promotion or both.

Our read

There is real utility here, especially if campaign history and brand guidance make suggestions less generic. But letting a chatbot move money is a different proposition from asking it for a draft. Advertisers should want clear controls and a human approval step before budget changes, not merely a polished chat window and crossed fingers.

What to watch

  • When Meta’s document uploads, reports and alerts move beyond testing.
  • What controls advertisers get over AI-driven targeting and budget changes.
  • How Meta and TikTok distinguish recommendations from paid placements.
  • Whether conversational checkout becomes a meaningful shopping channel or remains a novelty.

Discussion spark: Should an AI assistant be allowed to change advertising budgets from a chat prompt, or should every spend change require human approval?
