London startup Obsero has raised $1.2 million to build tools that track how brands appear in answers from ChatGPT and other AI search services. The funding backs a new kind of search visibility measurement, as companies try to work out whether AI answers are becoming a marketing channel worth paying attention to.

What happened

SFC Capital led the seed round, Finance Magnates reports. Obsero’s platform models customer questions and checks answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. It measures whether a brand appears, how prominently it is presented, the tone of the answer and which sites are cited.

The company says it analysed more than 10 million AI responses in its first year. It plans to use the funding to develop specialised AI agents that turn knowledge from its consulting work into marketing tools, more than double its engineering workforce and expand commercial operations. Finance Magnates names Zopa, Pepperstone and Zoopla among Obsero’s customers.

Why it matters

Search visibility has long been something businesses monitor; Obsero is betting that the same will be true when people ask an AI assistant for recommendations instead of scrolling through links. Its platform gives marketing teams a way to check whether they appear in those answers and what sources the systems cite.

But measurement is not proof that AI answers are already a major source of customers. The report says as much: whether financial companies treat this as a recurring marketing expense is still an open question. Ten million responses sounds like a large sample; the commercial value of tracking them is the test that matters.

Our read

This is a credible early signal of a market forming around AI-generated answers, rather than evidence that the old search-ad playbook has simply found a new hat. The useful distinction is between knowing where a brand appears and showing that those appearances change customer behaviour. Obsero has raised money to build the measurement tools; now it needs results that make the dashboard matter to a marketing budget.

What to watch

  • Whether Obsero publishes how it selects and models customer questions.
  • Whether it can connect appearances in AI answers to measurable customer acquisition.
  • Whether its planned AI agents become tools customers use directly, rather than an extension of consulting work.
  • Whether more financial companies make AI-answer visibility a regular marketing expense.

Discussion spark: Should companies pay to monitor their visibility in AI-generated answers before anyone can show that those appearances bring in customers?
