Smart Communications and Amihan Global Strategies have launched AI.Smart in the Philippines, giving Smart and TNT subscribers access to several major AI models through one workspace. The important shift is practical rather than theatrical: people can buy short, local-priced AI bundles and charge them to an existing mobile account, instead of juggling separate cards and subscriptions.

What happened

AI.Smart uses Amazon Bedrock and offers access to models from Amazon Nova, Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and Thinking Machines. Back End News reports that subscribers can upload files, ask questions with citations, summarise and draft documents, create spreadsheets, presentations and images, and analyse data. The workspace supports English, Filipino and Taglish.

The packs are priced at ₱49 for seven days, ₱99 for 14 days, ₱149 for 30 days and ₱499 for 30 days. Pro and Max packs can be shared by a team or family. Customers buy credits through the AI.Smart website or Smart’s LiveSmart app, confirming payment with a one-time SMS PIN.

AI.Smart runs in a dedicated AWS environment for Smart, with Avtica powering the service. The companies say uploaded files remain private to each subscriber workspace, are encrypted in transit and at rest, and are not used to train AI models or retained by model providers. They also say the service’s safety controls cover Filipino as well as English and that data handling follows the Philippine Data Privacy Act.

Why it matters

This is AI being sold more like mobile data than enterprise software. A ₱49 entry point could matter to students, freelancers and small businesses that find monthly dollar-priced subscriptions awkward, unavailable or simply too much commitment for an occasional task.

It also shows how model choice is becoming infrastructure. Users do not need to know which provider handles a request, while the operator can offer several models behind one local payment and support layer. Convenient, yes. It also makes privacy terms and model-routing explanations rather important, rather than decorative footnotes.

Our read

AI.Smart is a meaningful access story, not proof that every task will be handled equally well or that “the model suited to each task” is a transparent process. The useful test will be whether the bundles deliver dependable results at their limits, and whether subscribers can understand where their files go before they upload them.

For Filipino users, though, the proposition is unusually clear: local-language support, mobile-account billing and flexible expiry dates lower several barriers at once. The subscription wall has acquired a prepaid SIM, which is either smart distribution or a new place to lose track of your credits.

What to watch

  • Whether Smart and Amihan publish usage limits, model-routing details and credit costs for each task.
  • How the Filipino and Taglish safety controls perform in ordinary use.
  • Whether Avtica takes the same mobile-bundled approach to other markets.
  • Whether subscribers find short-lived packs better value than conventional monthly AI subscriptions. Sources & Evidence: Back End News, “Smart, Amihan launch localized AI workspace”, published 24 September 2026. The report supports the launch, model access, features, prices, payment method, data-handling claims and planned expansion. Those privacy and safety statements are attributed to the companies.

Discussion spark: Does bundling AI into prepaid mobile plans make advanced tools genuinely more accessible, or does it risk turning confusing model limits and recurring credits into the next hidden subscription trap?
