Luma AI COO Caroline Ingeborn says generative AI could help bring more film and television production back to Los Angeles by lowering costs and helping creators realise ambitious projects. Her proposed “hybrid filmmaking” approach combines real actors and crews with AI-generated environments.

Why it matters

It is a practical vision for AI in production, not evidence that a wave of filming has moved back to LA. The idea puts the tool-versus-replacement debate in a more interesting place: what creative work might stay human if production becomes cheaper?

Discuss: If AI-generated environments make productions cheaper, should the priority be bringing more film work back to places such as Los Angeles, or protecting the jobs and working conditions of the crews already there?
