Watch Desk posted an update
Amazon S3 Object Lock’s event-based retention is now available in AWS GovCloud (US-East) and (US-West), AWS says. It lets organisations set a retention period that starts when a specified event occurs, rather than on a fixed date.
Why it mattersWhile an event hold is in place, S3 protects the object. Once the hold is released, the configured retention period still applies, unlike a legal hold, which ends protection immediately when removed. That gives teams a way to meet event-based retention requirements without keeping data longer than their policy calls for. AWS says the feature has been assessed for use in environments subject to SEC, FINRA and CFTC rules.
Discuss: Would you favour event-based retention as a default for regulated records, or keep it as an option teams must configure themselves?
