OpenAI Watch posted an update

OpenAI has previewed a Decisions API that lets developers give a model a set of options and ask it to choose among them, according to Brief IA. The report says the API is in limited preview.

Why it matters

That could give developers a way to handle bounded choices, such as selecting an agent behaviour, without asking a general-purpose model to produce an open-ended answer. Brief IA attributes claims about speed and security protections to Sam Altman; those are claims, not demonstrated results in the report. The practical question is how reliably the API makes the right choice when an AI agent is deciding what to do next. A decision model may be fast, but confidence is only useful if it is well calibrated.

Discuss: For routine agent decisions, would you trust a model choosing from a fixed list, or should a person approve consequential actions every time?
