Watch Desk posted an update
AWS has expanded DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) to 17 more AWS Regions, including Hong Kong, Melbourne, Milan, Calgary and both AWS GovCloud regions. DAX is a managed in-memory cache for DynamoDB read workloads.
Why it mattersAWS says DAX can improve performance by up to ten times, from single-digit milliseconds to microseconds. The expansion gives customers in those regions another way to speed up read-heavy applications without managing their own cache infrastructure.
Discuss: For a read-heavy application, would you add a managed cache for the latency gains, or keep the architecture simpler and accept slower reads?
