Amazon Redshift can now query Amazon S3 data lake tables in a different AWS Region, without copying or replicating the data first, AWS says.
Why it mattersWith enhanced VPC routing enabled, traffic between S3 and Redshift stays within the customer’s VPC rather than travelling over public networks. Cross-Region queries still incur standard data-transfer charges. For organisations consolidating analytics across Regions, that could simplify access while keeping network controls in place. The useful detail is the trade-off: less data shuffling, but not a free trip.
Discuss: Would you use cross-Region queries to simplify analytics, or keep data local even if that means maintaining separate reporting pipelines?
