Vasileios Stergiou argues that general-purpose AI can mishandle Ancient Greek, and that digital humanities needs tools grounded in the texts scholars actually study. His proposed answer is retrieval from classical corpora, paired with a model able to discuss difficult arguments rather than dodge them.
Why it mattersStergiou says his daïmōnes Aristotle system uses the complete Corpus Aristotelicum in Ancient Greek. The essay’s stronger claims about accuracy and refusals are the author’s, not independently established results here. The useful point is the design challenge: a fluent answer is not much use if it mangles the source.
Discuss: Should specialist AI tools be judged mainly by benchmark scores, or by whether scholars can trace their answers back to the texts?
