AWS Brazil has introduced an automated distribution programme for eligible non-Brazilian software companies selling SaaS licences to customers in Brazil. AWS Brazil acts as seller of record, with buyers invoiced in Brazilian reais and applicable taxes handled in the process.
Why it mattersThe workflow also automates distribution authorisations, seller payments, tax withholding and reporting. Buyers can pay by card or invoice, while sellers can track transactions and payments through a dashboard. It is a practical change to how software reaches a major market: AWS takes on much of the local sales and billing machinery. The buyer-facing offer is priced in US dollars, but the invoice uses the exchange rate on its date. A small piece of marketplace plumbing, with rather less paperwork left to do by hand.
Discuss: Does having a cloud marketplace handle local sales and tax administration make international software easier to buy, or give sellers too much dependence on one platform?
