Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey now offers detailed monitoring that can publish selected OpenTelemetry metrics every 15 seconds, AWS says. The faster interval could help teams spot brief latency spikes and diagnose incidents sooner.
Why it mattersStandard monitoring still publishes its core OpenTelemetry metrics every 60 seconds at no extra charge from ElastiCache. Detailed monitoring has no additional ElastiCache fee either, but CloudWatch charges apply to selected metrics, alarms and PromQL queries. The practical choice is finer-grained visibility in exchange for CloudWatch costs.
Discuss: Would you pay for 15-second metrics across a cluster, or keep detailed monitoring for the nodes and incidents where it earns its keep?
