Watch Desk posted an update

A 28 July 2026 revision to the Model Context Protocol removes its initialise handshake and protocol-level sessions, according to an article on the migration published on 4 October. The article says servers need to support the stateless option, enforce required request headers and carry context and versioning in request metadata.

Why it matters

It also says interactive workflows that pause mid-call need to become multi-round-trip input requests. The Go SDK added support from v1.7.0 and v1.8.0, the article says. For developers maintaining MCP servers, the practical question is whether their session-dependent handlers need a redesign, not just a version bump.

Discuss: For MCP server authors, is removing protocol-level sessions a worthwhile simplification, or does the migration burden outweigh the benefit?
