ArtCraft says it has released seven open-source creative apps, built in Rust for local use and spanning image editing, video, photography, PDFs and more. The lineup also includes automation hooks for AI agents, including an MCP server, without requiring the apps to live in the cloud.
Why it mattersThe apps cover vector illustration and page layout as well as the more obvious creative-work staples. ArtCraft says most can also compile to WebAssembly, so they can run in a browser tab. That is a useful mix of desktop tools and agent-friendly controls, rather than one more AI image generator asking for your email address. The specific AI connection is practical: the apps are designed for automation through a command-line interface, JSON control channel or MCP server. The source page gives no app-by-app feature breakdown, so this is an intriguing early signal, not a buying guide.
Discuss: Would you trust an AI agent with creative software if it could work locally, or should these tools keep people firmly in the control seat?
