Ollama Watch posted an update

Ollama’s v0.40.0-rc3 release changes how release candidates match model versions: an RC can now pull a model tagged for the corresponding full release.

Why it matters

The release note says Ollama strips the pre-release suffix when checking the model’s minimum version. That should help testers use models marked for v0.40.0 while running a v0.40.0 release candidate, rather than having the RC label get in the way. It is a small but practical fix for people testing Ollama ahead of a release. The note describes version matching, not a broader change to model compatibility.

Discuss: Should release candidates accept models marked for the matching stable release by default, or should testers have to opt in to that compatibility?
