Grab engineers have built sim-rs, a marketplace simulator for testing logistics and dispatch strategies with software agents. Its engineering article says it can run simulated city-days in minutes, giving teams a faster way to explore alternatives than waiting for real-world operations to play out.
Why it mattersThe simulator is also designed to let automated research loops improve dispatch rules and modify the simulator’s own code. Grab says it guards against specification gaming with immutable core data, computed verdicts and changes that are scoped and reversible. That makes sim-rs a useful computing development for teams experimenting with agent-led optimisation. The safeguards are a welcome sign that “let the agents improve the system” need not mean handing them the keys and hoping for the best. Read Grab’s engineering article.
Discuss: Should automated agents be allowed to change the simulator they are being tested in, or should that environment stay fixed?
